Hobson Leavy on positive ROI

Hobson Leavy Executive Search talk about their branding. They explain how a strong brand has helped them increase profit and win them premium assignments.

“My name is Carrie Hobson and I’m a partner at Hobson Leavy, and partner with Stephen Leavy. So that’s why it’s called Hobson Leavy.

In my early career, I was originally a nurse and then I went to university and did an economics degree and ended up in banking and finance. I was a lawyer initially, and then I sort of thought I wanted to do something a little bit more hands on, something I thought might actually be a bit more tangible and not deal with paper, but deal with people.

And what attracted me to executive search is, we’re at the senior end of the market. So we think that the leaders really matter in terms of New Zealand. And from day one, once we launched the branding and started getting out there on the website, we got very, very, very good feedback from candidates and clients that we deal with, and actually people who just know us.

We definitely saw a revenue lift, quite a substantial one. So there was a real lift to the top line and therefore ultimately the bottom line as well. We are now in the top 25 executive search firms in the globe.

Rebrand helped with that portal that we use so that all our participants in the Panorama group can be part of that as well, and that was a complete exercise because it was a global exercise. We had companies based in the UK and Australia and South Africa and America, all with different agendas and different ideas about how they wanted things done, and Rebrand managed that extremely well. So I think that’s a huge accolade to Rebrand that we wanted to use them again.

One of the things I quite liked about Rebrand of Ticker was the way they brainstormed with us and met with us quite a number of times during the process. They would talk about their ideas and then get our feedback, and we would throw our ideas in. So we really contributed. Have faith, have some trust in the fact that they do know what they’re doing, and they will take you on a journey or a path to get to a great outcome.

And it was probably when we relaunched at our 10 year anniversary that I really started to look at the imagery and started to say, wow, I’m enormously proud of that, because that really is… I really enjoyed that process because it also allowed me to think about our business. Stepping back, which as a business owner you don’t get to do very often. Stepping, looking back, really looking at why we’re here, what are we trying to achieve? What are we achieving? What are we not achieving?

They got us thinking about a lot of those things and the brand work, and actually it’s one of the few times we’ve really done that. So I found it a really enjoyable process.

I was also a little bit nervous because I had been involved earlier in my various development on that side that seemed to cost a fortune, and never actually deliver, whereas with Rebrand it was just seamless. It just happened. And our website’s fantastic.

And you know, one role in particular that comes to mind is that we pitched for the Governor of the Reserve Bank in New Zealand, and we got that role. That was phenomenal for Hobson Leavy, a so called boutique New Zealand owned executive search firm, to be mandated on that assignment.

And I have no doubt that the clarity of our pitch, which had all come through the Rebrand exercise, the clarity of our visuals that we were able to share when we went into that boardroom and said we’d really like to do this role, definitely led to us being appointed on that assignment.”
